Its a private estate located amidst the serenity of Bali's stunning landscape, close to Ubud, Bali's creative and cultural centre. Spread out over eight hectares of lush tropical gardens are the estate's five uniquely styled and appointed residences comprising 21 suites 4 private villas.

The concept is, simply, Life Style. It is a lifestyle that affords you the ultimate in luxury accommodation, the natural beauty that is exclusive to Bali and the privacy of living in your own personal, tropical hideaway. You can reserve either a single suite or an entire residence. The emphasis is on choice and the fulfillment of all of your wishes to allow you to share in the experience, magic and lifestyle of the area.

ACOMMODATION

Accommodation is among the most private and spacious of its kind, built into the jungle, clearings and above the Ayung river.

There are five Residences, each with four or five suites and a large swimming pool.

RESIDENCE

* Bayugita ( Windsong ) : is an architectural exercise in simplicity, combining the simple lines of Balinese tradition with details from colonial Java (Victorian antique baths, Venetian and Dutch colonial beds). Cooling breezes move through the interior, comprising a 96sq metre COMO Shambhala Suite with private Jacuzzi, two Terrace Suites (80 and 45 sq metres), one Garden Room and a study, which can be converted into an additional bedroom or used for spa treatments.

* Tirta-Ening ( Clear water ) : is dominated by a 91sq metre COMO Shambhala Suite with an exquisite Japanese water garden featuring a private waterfall. The entire Residence has a Zen feel. The sound of water can be heard throughout. The dining and living rooms cover some 113 square metres, and are happily shared with guests booked into Tirta-Ening's Estate Suite or two Terrace Suites. The pool is stunning. There is a central floating pavilion constructed from batu kuning (yellow rock) and teak wood with an ironwood shingled roof, reminiscent of old Javanese homes.

* Tejasuara ( Sound of Fire ): is a bold, primitive-style Residence, inspired by Sumba (1200 tonnes of stone imported from this island were used in its construction). Detailing includes tribal cloth furnishing, black bamboo beds and thatch roofing. A fire pit burns beside the infinity pool, which overlooks fields of lemongrass, a spice also endemic to Sumba. The three Terrace Suites are substantial - two of them 83 square metres, exceeding the 70sq metre COMO Shambhala Suite, which has a private Jacuzzi, outdoor shower, meditation garden, courtyard and pavilion.

* Wanakasa ( Forest in the Mist ) : Wanakasa (Forest in the Mist) comprises a COMO Shambhala Suite with private Jacuzzi, two Terrace Suites, two Garden Roomsand a study/extra bedroom. It is set amongst the trees, the pool's semi-circular edge echoing the bend of the Ayung River that lies 100 metres below. The main living pavilion is supported by huge columns fashioned from the wide trunks of bingkirai trees. Together with teak floors and the ironwood shingle roofs, it feels like a five-star treehouse.

* Umabona ( House of the Earth ) : boasts The Estate's grandest accommodation - the Royal Suite, comprising two master suites, a Jacuzzi, private infinity pool, living room and dining room (308 square metres). In addition, there are two Terrace Suites, one Garden Room and study all sharing a pool, living and dining room with a wood-fired pizza oven. The aesthetic is inspired by the Majapahit palaces and their formal pleasure gardens. Interiors include hand carvings, fine antiques, courtly furniture, gilding, richly painted walls and precious textiles.

DINNING

BIJI
Simplicity is at the heart of Begawan Giri. The cuisine that is created by Chef David King is New World with Indonesian accents, prepared simply and authentically, using the freshest ingredients drawn from the land. To ensure that Begawan Giri Estate remains self-contained, poultry, fish and prawn farms have been established on the grounds, as have vegetable gardens, tropical fruit trees and flower nurseries.

At Begawan Giri, you can dine anywhere you choose on the estate. In your suite, at the Residence pavilion, in the gardens... or at the estate's new restaurant, Biji. Biji achieves new conceptual standards and and will prove a talking-point in Bali and Indonesia. Globally, the restaurant promises to take its place in the international arena by offering everything the modern world desires in terms of a restaurant.

The choice of fare is large, varied and definitely tempting. Accents and influences of food are broad and truly modern in respect to the world becoming one nation.

KUDUS HOUSE
"Kudus House" represents an era of former glory, and of Indonesian culture at its pinnacle. The "house" itself dates back 150 years with a history of three generations of living occupants. Located on the western side of the Estate between Biji Restaurant and the Amphitheatre / lounge,

Kudus House offers stunning views of the Ayung river meandering through the valley below in all its splendour. Its cuisine is a classical representation of Indonesian food on the whole with its diversification of styles, flavours and influences encompassing an authentic rustic charm.

THE CHEF
For David King, the kitchen reflects the modern day and simplicity is the key. He feels strongly that food should not be constricted by its origins but treated simply, using fresh and authentic ingredients. Today, this approach serves him well with Biji at Begawan Giri Estate. He promises guests and patrons: "Biji Restaurant moves towards the millennium with a 'tour de force' of New World Food."

King was born in South Africa. He attended Ryde Catering College in 1986 and worked in various capacities in restaurants all over the world including London, Paris, San Francisco, Hong Kong and prior to joining Begawan Giri Estate, at Darley Street Thai, Australia's premier Thai restaurant.
